Searchanise has adjustable Merchandising rules for products, tags, and categories.

Merchandising rules for products

Searchanise supports 5 types of product merchandising:

  • No — no promotion, the product is shown as it is in the search.
  • Always — the product is always at the top of the search results no matter what the buyer typed.
  • On Match — the product will be at the top of the list if it’s included in the search results.
  • Keywords — the product will be at the top for particular keywords typed in the search box.
  • Last — the product will be at the end of the list if it’s included in the search results.

To configure your product promotions, go to the Merchandising tab in the Searchanise control panel. Here are your current merchandising rules.

To create a new rule, click the + button.

Find the necessary products using filters.

Change the product ranking in the search results by choosing one of the promotion options. By default, all the products have No options that mean no promotions.

E.g. We’ll make our product “Hill’s Canine Vetessentials Adult” to be always on the first place in the Search results widgets.

Note: for the “Keywords” option keywords must be specified. This merchandising rule won’t work without them.

The Date range option allows you to set Merchandising rules for a certain period of time you need. If this setting isn't used, Merchandising rules for the item will work until you delete them.
To set up a date range, check the tick box right next to UTC and click on the input field below it. You can choose between 5 periods: Today, Tomorrow, Next week, Next month, and Custom range.

After the changes are saved, please wait for the indexation to complete or do it manually by clicking the Force re-indexation button in the Dashboard section.

To check the result in our case, we go to the storefront after the indexation is complete, and try to enter any phrase in the search box. The first product in the search results is “Hill’s Canine Vetessentials Adult”.

Merchandising rules based on product tags

Searchanise allows you to promote products using their tags.
Tag merchandising also has 5 types of rules: No, Always, On Match, Keywords, Last.

After the + button is clicked, the input fields for tags will appear. Specify your tags in them and choose ranking rules.

As an example, we added the promo tag to one of the products: Hill's Nature's Best Kitten con Pollo. And specified its tag in the Merchandising section with the Always rule.

Note: for the “Keywords” option keywords must be specified. This merchandising rule won’t work without them.

As a result, we can see our product being displayed at the top of the list even if the search term doesn't match it.

Merchandising rules for collections

As we mentioned earlier, Searchanise allows you to not only have merchandising on single products but even on whole collections. Collection merchandising also has 5 types of rules: No, Always, On Match, Keywords, Last.

Upon clicking the + button, you will see collections with No rules. You can choose merchandising rules in the Ranking dropdown.

In our example, we will make the "Canned animal food" collection appear with the keyword 'conserved'.

After saving the changes, please wait for the indexation to complete or do it manually by clicking the Force re-indexation button in the Dashboard section.

Now if we type conserved in the search bar, our whole collection appears before any other results.
